BWFWAVrename

BWFWAVrename is an ongoing project to help us see usable audio track information on our timelines when using Avid Media Composer.

Who knows what’s what here?

Currently it is not possible to see track names on the timeline. This tool will rename audio tracks (recorded in the BWF WAVE broadcast format), using the metadata to add the track name to the filename. Then when the files are imported into Media Composer, the track information can be visible on the timeline.

Now we can see what’s what!

The tool also deals with ‘polywav’ files (many audio tracks embedded into a single file) by splitting them into individual files, each with the track name added into the filename.

The project is written in python, but is available as a windows executable and a mac app. Both function the same.

Yeah… It’s sometimes helpful to know who’s on what channel

(please note, there is a bug with Apple’s python integration in OS X Mojave (10.14.x) that will cause a crash back to the log on screen. Apparently apple fixed this in Catalina and above)

Is it possible to update this now that python 3.8.3 works with Catalina?

Hi, thanks for the great software. We’re having some problems using the software to split from a Sounddevice 888 – it just displays “Problem reading XML” even though they should be identical to the iXML from our working Sounddevice 688. Any ideas, have you heard of this before? thanks 🙂

The new 8 series Sounddevice recorder must have changed something, course i can only get it to work if i do a spilt in Wave Agent.
I recorded Bwf and RF64 files, nothing works, did you look into this ?? and maybe have an update coming ??

    Thx

    Hi ,

I’ve just tried using this on Windows 10 with Mono WAV’s generated by the new Sound Devices 888 recorder.
Sadly the exe has a problem with reading the XML from the clips.
Has anyone else had this issue?

    Thanks

Hey ! I would try this program, I’m very interested but this version BWFWAVrename 0.6b Mac crashes on my Macbook Pro Touch Bar / Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6.

If I use this to split up a poly file, will a re-recording mixer still be able to pull in all the isolated tracks if I cut just with the mix track? Or do I lose that by splitting up the poly file?

    Hi,
I would love to download the 0.6b for windows. I think it would make my lifes so much easier. Unfortunately google drive gives an error: ‘This files is infected by a virus. Only the owner can download it’.

    Best Regards,

Hey, awesome project! Would love a feature/option that places each split polywav into their own folder, perhaps simply based on the original files name.

So “Sc1At01.wav” polywav gets split up into mono wav files as the software normally does, but also places it inside a new folder called “Sc1At01”, so giving each scene it’s own new folder essentially. This would mimick how monophonic recordings are delivered from sound mixers on set, and also save some manual folder making and organizing. Extra points for an additional feature that removes the original file name from the new file name, so rather than “Sc1At01_Boom_1.wav”, we just “Boom.wav” inside that new folder.

Again, very awesome software you’ve made!
